Preparing for bees

My bees are arriving today!  Actually, the supplier received them last night, I can pick them up today.  Lots to do to get ready.  First thing:  making syrup!

The bees are going to arrive hungry, and they have a lot to do.  they need to cover all of the frames in the hive with wax honeycomb so that the queen can start laying eggs.  they also need honey comb for storing nectar and pollen to feed the bees and the larvae.

The best way to make that happen is to give them sugar water.  It’s a 1:1 syrup by weight 1 gallon of water is 8 pounds, so 1 gallon of water + 8 pounds of sugar = 1:1 syrup.

Note to self:  buy more sugar!!!!!
